This Web page is still considered to be under construction. A couple of facts and figures need to be resolved, so please be kind!
This is the Home Page for the Houston Users of Banyan user group, otherwise know as "HUB". The purpose of the page is to inform you what HUB is, what HUB does, who runs HUB and where we meet.

ATTENTION!Kris Jacobs has moved to Austin, so HUB is currently looking for another President!!! The only restriction in the by-laws is that the president cannot be a vendor or reseller, but has to be a "user". If you are interested, please contact Kris Jacobs ASAP! Thanks! |

HUB shares the title as the oldest Banyan user group in the world with CALABU, the California Association of Banyan Users. It has been around since the "old" days of VINES 2.x ... around 1986.
HUB was sanctioned by the Association of Banyan Users International (ABUI) in 1987? and was a groundbreaker in areas of producing a newsletter, putting up a BBS, and presiding at the ABUI Presidents Roundtable at the bi-yearly ABUI Conference.
As you would expect, HUB consists of administrators, analysts, programmers, MIS directors, software/hardware vendors, and users of Banyan in the greater Houston area, and has a membership list in excess of 300. HUB meets monthly -- as a rule -- and brings in vendors to discuss their products, provides technical sessions on specific topics of interest, occasionally turns out a newsletter, and generally provides a place for Houston Banyan types to get together and chat.
There are many names that can be associated with HUB during the early days, even before HUB was a sanctioned ABUI user group. Names like Joe Cragen, Debra Springston, Derek Flickinger, Rob Graebe, Floyd Hammonds, Bob Porter, John Griggs, Larry Bowe, and ?????????. These people were instrumental in making HUB a pillar of the Banyan community in Houston.
Today, the current President of HUB is Kris Jacobs (e-mail: kjacobs@diamond.com). The Immediate Past President is, Robert Laird (e-mail: rlaird@cris.com).
Our fearless leader, Kris...
Where does HUB Meet?
Just about anywhere! :-)
The September 1996 meeting was held at PanEnergy (Network General gave us a run down of some of the new VINES functions built into their Sniffer product); the October meeting will be held at CompuCom... where Incognito will discuss their new products.
In the past, the monthly HUB meetings were often held at Compaq Computer and Panhandle Eastern in the early days, but are now moved around as logistics require. Sometimes, the local Banyan office will sponsor a meeting, and at other times, the meeting will be held in a training room of a local vendor. Although it would be nice to have a permanent meeting place, the cost and logistics of it have prevented that from happening.
HUB's mailing address is:
but you'd be better off sending e-mail to Kris Jacobs, or calling (713) 467-4135 to leave a voice-mail or fax.
Thanks for stopping by the HUB Web page. If there is any other information about HUB that you'd like to see on this page, please feel free to send comments to the address below.
